I am installing the Trialware version of GSS 3.0.  I got the "The license file you specified is not a valid Ghost Solution Suite license . . . " error.  I downloaded the 38108342.slf file from this thread, but still get the same message when trying to apply it.

    What now?

    Hi,

To apply and SLF licence file to GSS just copy it into the Licenses folder in the eXpress share and thats it. You'll be licensed!

The default install should put this as this path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Altiris\eXpress\Deployment Server\Licenses

The trialware download automatically has the trial license installed so you don't actually need to do this. But it's nice to see it working anyway ;-)

    Kind Regards,
    Ian./

    Hi mondtw,

Did you install GSS3.0 without a Hotfix? I´m asking because in the initial release there was a problem with the License File.

Please also take a look at following KB: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH230840

This issue should be resolved with the latest Hotfix (HF4)

    Hello!

Here is an article on this issue:

GSS 3.0 Licensing error during installation or while adding new licenses to existing install

Basically, you should skip adding a license during the install. It should allow you to proceed without one. Then add that license file afterwards.

    Thank you,

I pulled the install from my symantrec login.  Im wanting to use the trial version for some testing, so this is not a installer downloaded from the trial version website.  If you leave the license info blank during install, it fails saying its not a valid key, even though it says leave blank for trial...so this is GSS3 with HF5

In my case there was a .slf file left in the Program Files (x86)\Altiris\eXpress\Deployment Server\Licenses folder from a previous attempt.  Even if the previous attempt was the demo version and you're trying to install the demo version again, delete the old .slf file first, then install.  Uninstalling does not remove the old .slf file.

Nope, this is a clean non-demo version, first attempt install. Simply wanting to use trial version, and i cant get past that screen as it wont take a blank entry, even though thats what it says to do.

Can you please show a screenshot of the screen you can't get past? Every install I've done allows you to just click 'next' here and all is fine.

And just in case, please just re-download GSS3 from the Symantec trialware website.

Thanks Ian, i just went and signed up for a trial, instead of logging in and using my existing account and serial number to download and its seems to be working.  I wonder why you get sent a license file after signing up when the installer clearly says if you leave blank it'll be for a trial version. Looking good now.
