  • 1.  License Key Problem in Symantec Mail Security

    Posted Jan 10, 2009 12:35 AM

    Good Day.

I am hoping that someone could help me in my problem.

I installed Symantec Mail Security 5 in my Linux Box and everything work fine in the installation.

I am able to log in to the login page.

I downloaded the slf file, configure it and setup my proxy ip and port. After I clicked the register button it says that registration was successful and I am now able to continue but I cannot click the next button to continue because it was disabled. I tried to do the same process again and again but still the next button is disabled.

Anyone who experienced and know the resolution of my problem?

    Please help...

    TIA

    -Trik

    Hello Trik,

Is it dropping the license file in the "opt/Symantec/licenses" folder? If not, try copying the license to this folder and see if this allows you to get past this page. Also is it creating a cert.pem file? This would be in the bin folder I believe under our SMSSMTP directory.

Thank you Tom for the reply.

SLF file was copied to /opt/Symantec/Licenses folder but it don't create a cert.pem file.

    Now im having new problems.

When i register it says that it cannot register the specified license file. I downloaded a new slf file but still same error exists.

And also, when I login to my server (https://localhost:41443/brightmail) its says that the certificate was expired.

Sorry if im giving you a headache.

    Thank you.

    Hi Trik,

Why don't you open up your slf file in notepad and paste the content into a thread on the forum, seeing the contents of the file should help.

In terms of the certificate error when trying to long in with your web browser this is nothing to do with an expired license, you should be able to bypass the message to login or set a security exception so you can log into the appliance.

Well this looks strange to me, check out the start and end date in the license file:

    <start_date>2009-01-12</start_date>
    <end_date>2007-11-20</end_date>

The end date is before the start date.  I think the problem is with this license file.  I would contact Support and let them try to register with your license file.  If it turns out this is the problem, which I think it is, they should be able to sort you out with a new license.

    Hi Trik,

FYI, I was suggesting you contact Support, I wasn't stating I was doing this on your behalf.

By the way, Yes there is something wrong with that license. Go ahead and contact licensing support and they will get it straightened out for you.

Also, I would suggest that you edit your post and clear the "Serial Number" part of the license please. It would be appreciated. Not a huge issue, but preferred.

    Thanks!

    Hello,

I guess there is no issue with the license file even i have faced the same problem and resolved.

I think you are installing the SBG on VM_Ware server if yes then remove the VM-Ware and reinstall it and after that install the license file. The error which you are recieving is due to the problem of date of your VM-Ware server which may be installed on previous date.
