License Renewals

Created: 04 Mar 2014 • Updated: 18 Apr 2014 | 17 comments

Hi,

We are using Symantec endpoint protection 21.1 and the licenses expired last friday.

I did buy new licenses and received my .SLF file.

The problem is on the servers we are using the Antivirus we don't have the Enpoint Manager console.

How do I renew the licenses without the console?

Thank you in advance.

Sorry it is Symantec endpoint protection 12.1 and not 21.1.

Does are you using Unmanaged client ?

You can activate your license in two way.

1) By entering your serial number which generally starts with "M", after entering serial number you can click on download license file & SEPM will download license file for you - Obviously it requires Internet connection

2) You can manually import .slf file into SEPM console, if you don't have .slf file then you will have to contact license department to receive it.

License department number : 18003420652 (Follow IVR)

But I don't understand how the SEPM will update without Internet connection.

Are these managed or unmanaged clients?

When you input the license into the SEPM, clients will automatically be updated and it will take affect.

Ok so I don't have a Manager Console and the article states that I need to copy the files into folders, but

there is none of that folders in my Microsoft 2012 server directories.

I do have a .slf file, how can I use this?

Must I uninstall Symantec and then load it again? Will it ask for the .slf file after the installation or what?

.Brian's picture

This needs to be done on the client, not the SEPM.

Ok but how do I do it on the client?

  1. On the client computer, place the copied license file into the Symantec Endpoint Protection client inbox. By default, the folder in which the inbox appears is hidden, so use Folder Options to enable the showing of hidden files and folders.

    • On the clients that run on a pre-Vista version of Windows, the inbox is located at: Drive:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\CurrentVersion\inbox

    • On the clients that use Vista or a later version of Windows, the inbox is located at: Drive:\ProgramData\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\CurrentVersion\inbox\

If the license file is invalid or the license installation failed, a folder named Invalid is created and the invalid license is placed into the folder. If the file is valid, it is automatically removed from the inbox after it is processed.

  2. To verify that you applied the license correctly, check that no files appear in the inbox folder.

  3. Check that the .slf file is in either one of the following folders:

    • For the clients that run on a pre-Vista version of Windows: Drive:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\CurrentVersion\Data\Config

    • For the clients that run on Vista or a later version of Windows: Drive:\ProgramData\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\CurrentVersion\Data\Config

Ok That folder is not under program files.

But will it help if I uninstall symantec and reinstall it?

Will it then ask me for a License key?

No,It's not asking License Key when you will install SEP client.

Rooster1089's picture

There is no Inbox folder in the symantec folder?

I do have the software to install.

Apparantly it was installed the first time by uploading the .slf file to symantec website and they downloaded a "package" with the .slf file already in.

When they installed it, it automaitically registered the key?

It's available under ProgramData not programe file
