License seats issues

    Hi ,

2 days back we have received the license for SEP 12.1 and import to SEPM server, after importing we came to know that that license file only for 2000 seats, but in my enviroment we have more than 10000+ clients, so we are planning to purchase remaining licenses.

meanwhile is there any effect to other clients? remaining clients get updates regularly ?if yes, then upto how many dates cleints will receive the dates.

The other clients would receive updates...most probably, they would appear as trial, i.e. 60 daya validity without any issues...

Or they might show as over-deployed...again would receive updates...but you would keep getting a reminder about the license status...

    Hello,

Do not worry about the updates and definitions. Since you are running the SEP 12.1 Enterprise Edition, all the clients would keep receiving definitions and updates without any issues.

When the license goes out of compliance the Symantec Endpoint Protection product goes into enforcement mode. There are two types of enforcement

    1)  Hard Enforcement: SEP 12.1 Small Business Edition

    • Content update downloads stop for both server and clients. In Small Business Edition it's 1:1 mapping with CAT server.
    • UI changes and log notifications are started.

    2)  Soft Enforcement: SEP 12.1 Enterprise Edition

    • Content update downloads continue from all the sources.
    • UI changes and log notifications are started.

Check this Article: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/sep-121-and-license-concept and check the Attachments for clear understanding.

    Hope that helps!!

    Hello,

    UI = User Interface.

You would see License status as over-deployed till the time you have not updated the License and you would keep receiving Over deployed Notification. There is no Limit set in SEP 12.1 Enterprise Edition where the clients or server functionality would be affected.

    Check these VIDEOs:

Licensing Guide for SEP 12.1- Part 1

Licensing Guide for SEP 12.1- Part 2

    Hope that helps!!

    Hello,

    Yes, Correct.

However, that does not mean you do not purchase License for the other 8k machines. laugh

Your support would stand at 2000 clients only till you have License for all 10k machines.

    Hope that helps!!

We have received multiple license files for remaing clients.

How to import multiple license files to SEPM . Is it same procedure as we do for single file?

For example. If we have 10000+ cleints in my environment , we have received license files as below.

for 5000 clients one license file

for 1000 clients one license file

for 2000 clients one license file

for 1500 and 500 one license file.

    1. Save the license file on a computer or network that is accessible from the console computer.

    2. In the console, click Admin.

    3. On the Admin page, under Licenses, click one of the following links:

      Import a license file

Click Import a license file to import a license for a first-time installation.

Click Import a license file to upgrade a trialware license.

      Import a renewed license file

Select the expired license, and then click Import a renewed license file to import the license renewal.

      Import an additional license file

Click Import an additional license file to import a license for over-deployed clients.

Click Import an additional license file to import a license from your Symantec legacy virus protection software.

    4. In the Import License dialog box, select the .slf license file.

    5. Click Import.

    Hello,

Are these Licenses of the same product?

If yes, you could enter license serial numbers into Symantec Endpoint Prortection Manager.

Multiple serial numbers can be entered in one session.

Each Serial number should have Company Info and Technical Contact Info associated with that Serial Number.

After the information is received by the licensing server the license is sent back.

To Activate your Current License, Go to: Admin tab > License > Activate license. Select 'I have a serial number' to activate your license(s).

    Check this Article: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH162623

    Hope that helps!!

we Don't have option import license in license console under admin. We have option Activate license.

Please guide us how to procede further. Already we have active one license file for 1000+ clients we need to activate the license for remaining licenses. we haev only option is activate licemse instead of  import option.

    One thing you can try....

Login to SEPM- GO to clients - edit location based policy- there you can find Communication Settings - Go to download section you can see Download Policies and Content from the management server - change Push mode to Pull mode, and belive me your problem get solved.
