I need to create a solution using ALTIRIS DEPLOYMENT SOLUTION FOR CLIENTS WITH REMOTE 7.1. I know it's licensed per user/node.

Are there any other components that it requires or will it work as is?

The user needs to migrate PCs (about 1000 of them) to Windows 8. CMS is overkill since he just needs the deployment solution.

    Please help..thanks.

Check to see if you have a LIC file.  if you do, then you have the ability to use DS for Clients 6.9 which is lighter and easier to configure (and faster).  DS 6.9 SP6 has full support for PE4 and for Win8 and can be used as well.  The product is "older" but was just updated.  I THINK the LIC file is still shipped with the CMS license pack.

CMS / DS 7.1 is overkill for quick imaging but works well in a distributed environment.  If you don't have it in place already I'd recommend 6.9 if you can.  MUCH easier to get up and running in a hurry.  If this is for a long-haul, set up CMS in the lab, learn it, and roll-it out.

If the latter is the chosen route for you per management (or you), you might consider some videos and docs I put together here for that product, including getting up and running almost from scratch:

You only need Deployment Solution 7 licences but you'll have to install Symantec Installation Manager and then use that to install Deployment Solution, which will install the Symantec Management Platform that all solutions use. You'll need a SQL server too, SQL Server Express may do though is not recommended for 1,000 clients.

How will the client manage the 1,000 PCs, deliver software etc?

You may still be able to use Deployment Server 6.9, Edit: See Thomas' post below
