  • 1.  Licensing SMSME on a cluster

    Posted Oct 24, 2008 03:44 PM

    Howdy,

I have SMSME installed on a cluster.  When Exchagne and SMSME fails over to the other node I'm getting the following error:

Virus definition and content license for Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange on server NODE1 has expired, is damaged, or is not installed.

I don't believe I can install the same license file on both nodes.  The license file was installed on the virtual server name (exch02) while NODE2 was hosting it.  There is no license error while NODE2 is hosting the resource.

    Any advice?

    Thanks,

    -=Chris

    Hello Chris,

You can freely use the license file on the other NODE (Node 1) while it is up.  This will still keep you within compliance of your agreement with Symantec with no worries.  The license file agreement is for however many mailboxes you purchased, and if you run a cluster, you are able to use the .SLF file to install on both Nodes.  The file is stored in a common location on the local system.

To install on NODE1 bring up NODE1 or select NODE1 within the console of the SMSMSE.

    Select Admin and licensing

Browse the license file and install it.

    Hope this helps.

    Scott

    Hi, this is Fasil.

We have entr symantec which was originally subscribed for standard three years. Now on nov it has expired. hopefully after some days of grace period, the mail security for exchange start generating thousands of notifications and send to the admins. we are busy with our administrative procedures to renew it, but in mean time i am looking for any workaround to stop the notifications till we renew it.

    the message appears as follow:

Virus definition and content license for Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange on server OUREXSERVER is not installed, has expired or is damaged.

If you have purchased a new license and have not installed it, please goto: https://licensing.symantec.com

If you do not have a license or wish to renew your expired license then please contact your sales rep or visit : http://nct.symantecstore.com/0060/value_program.html

If you have a valid installed license and are still getting this email message, your license may have been damaged or corrupted. Please contact customer support to resolve this issue.

    thanks.
