linux backup grows too large

Created: 09 Jan 2014 | 1 comment

I have a SLES 11 server thast is a VM guest in Hyper-v.  The actual size of the server is only 50GB.  When i back it up it tries to grow to 100s even 1000s of GBs.  What is the deal and waht is the proper way to perform a file level backup?  If i run a NON GRT backup of the host it backs it up but i would liek to get more detailed than replace the whole thing.  Thanks.

GRT backup of a Linux VM using HyperV / WMWare agent is not supported. If you want to perform such a backup it would have to be Non GRT. Having said that, if you want to be able to restore at file level then you need to perform a traditional backup of that VM. i.e install a Remote Agent for Linux (RALUS) and perform a backup.
