Linux incrementals using modified time
Hello,
I've read several threads on this forum regarding incremental backups on the Linux agent. They all claim that if you use the same selection list, you should be able to specify:
Full - Back up files - Using modified time
to get a full backup and:
Incremental - Back up changed files since last full or incremental - Using modified time
to get an incremental backup.
However, this does not work for me. It always does a full backup. Now if I pick 'Working set - Back up files - Changed today' it basically works.
This document (http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/192119.htm) says to do what I just said above. But it also says that v 10.x should do the right thing for incrementals.
So I'm basically curious why incrementals do not work as advertised. One thing I do notice is that after a backup run, the ctime of all files is updated. Is it possible that the linux agent is using the ctime rather than the mtime when doing incrementals? Could I be using an old version of the agent? Here is the version of my linux agent:
strings agent.be | grep -i version
Backup Exec -- Unix Agent, Version 5.01
Any pointers are appreciated.
Thanks,
mikeS

The remote agent on your server is a legacy one which does not support diff/inc backups. See if you can install the RALUS for BE 10.d on your server (check this link, http://support.veritas.com/docs/278254, for SCL).
Thank you Bin Fang. That explains things. However the link you provide seems to be dead. :)
