Linux pre-boot with Intel 82801 SATA

This issue has been solved. See solution.

Has anyone had success using the Linux pre-boot environment to image computers with the Intel 82801 SATA AHCI Controller? I haven't seen Linux drivers available for this anywhere. I know I could disable SATA as a work around, but that feels like a baby with the bathwater solution. I'm working with Fujitsu tablet PCs (T4220 and T5010).

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, David

Linux pre-boot

I have the same problem with HP workstation DC7900, looks like we need to build the driver in linux to get the correct .ko file for this. Buth there is no driver for linux on the intel website.

Support Tickets ??

I believe there are a few tickets opened up to support on this. I would use WIN PE until you see a hotfix come out.

Altiris FTP site

You might try the Altiris FTP site. They have a few drivers that may work for you.

ftp://support.altiris.com/support/NIC_drivers/Linux/Altiris_verified/DS%206.8%20SP2%20(2.6.18.8)

Where do I put the ahci.ko file?

The driver for the network works fine if I put i in ...\Bootwiz\platforms\Linux\x86\Drivers\CUSTOM\lib\modules\_ver_\kernel\opt\bdc\

Buth when I put the ahci.ko file in the same directory the disk still cannot be found when booting linux

Use 'Have Disk'

Use 'Have Disk' from the bootdisk creator (https://kb.altiris.com/article.asp?article=40799&p=1). That is easier then manually creating the paths.

See this article for the working drivers https://kb.altiris.com/article.asp?article=45286&p=1

If you are using 6.9 sp1 beware of this bug https://kb.altiris.com/article.asp?article=44108&p=1

disk found

After adding the driver ahci.ko with have disk procedure I can finally image. It only works for bios settings AHCI and RAID not for IDE.

Only problem now is after deploying xp image windows keeps rebooting over and over again.
When I set the bios to IDE it boots but I would like it if it would boot with bios option AHCI.

With VISTA it works fine booting with bios option AHCI.

ahci.ko only works for bios in AHCI mode

Hi,

Just to add ahci.ko will only detect your disks if your controller is configured in the BIOS to AHCI mode.

The good news is that the new ahci.ko will cope with the HP7900 as well as the Dell Optiplex 760.

The revisions I made to ahci.ko could not have been achieved though without the help of Alan Cox at Linux.org and Joe Doupnik at Oxford University. So my hat off to them for their great input.

I hope to get out soon a revised module to handle the BIOS configured with the controller in IDE compatibility mode. But this is still in test.

Kind Regards,
Ian./
