  • 1.  Live Update does not honor update frequency?

    Posted Jun 02, 2009 05:52 PM
Running SEP 11 MR4 on Win XP Pro SP3.

The small office of a client is in the boonies, out of range of standard high-speed internet, so they have HughesNet.  HN's "Fair [sic] Access Policy" necessitates changing the default LU settings.  I tried setting them to once a day (3am-ish), then once a week, but the HN usage logs still show ~50MB downloads, ~4 times a day (this is down from 5+ large downloads a day resulting in their draconian bandwidth throttling, btu still not acceptable).  Pretty sure it's the SEPM PC, as it was shut down last night, and major usage stopped for the first time since checking the usage logs.

Should the LU settings work?  Am I not flipping the right switches?  Thanks for any pointers.

I set the frequency of my updates on the "LiveUpdate" tab, under Edit Site Properties.  I was able to control the server getting updates through there without any trouble.  Was that the setting you changed?

I think that was it.  I was looking in the wrong place - under Policies->Live Update->LU Settings Policy.  I see now as I read the "fine print" at the top of the page: "The schedule settings do not control downloads from the default management server, ..."  Thanks much for the pointer.  I will confirm in a few days after monitoring.
