Live update encountered one or more errors. Return code = 4

  • 1.  Live update encountered one or more errors. Return code = 4

SPC does not seem to be getting updates. I'm getting email notifications several times a day that say "Retry timestamp is over the maximum timestamp window."

A few months ago I did a fresh install of SPC on a server for a client. Everything seemed fine until I realized that none of the clients were syncing up with the manager. The simplest solution for me was to uninstall SEP from each client and redelpoy in SPC. When I uninstalled SEP I did not uninstall Live Update. This could have something to do with the manager not being able to update properly.

    Help is appreciated!

See this KB  with a possible solution -

Do I need to uninstall Live update and reregister it with every client or just the server that has SPC?

Just the server that is the SPC.

I deleted the files in the download folder, uninstalled live update, and downloaded live update 3.3. When I go into command prompt I am unable to cd over to the location of the lucatalog.exe. I've tried running it from "cd C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\bin" but the download folder is still empty and I'm still getting a return error code 4 in SPC. Is there another way to reregister LU and force an update?

Live update will run successfully now but I'm receiving this error as a notification now.

"The process ConfigServerHandler.processLUContent can not lock the process status table. The process status has been locked by the server 853CA37F0A00003201DD3D21A33F129D (ConfigServerHandler.processLUContent) since 2010-12-02 23:57:01."

I've looked into this error and it looks like Live Update will not run atuomatically anymore. Any suggestions on fixing this?

You might consider opening a case with Symantec Support.

Do try Repairing SPC once. Do you have any proxy on this server ? If yes then you will have to configure proxy for liveupdate in the SPC.

Could you please attach LiveUpdate log? The error code 4 is a very general one and means that update failed. The notification you receive means that SPC cannot try to update again as it exceeds retry window. But the root issue is that LU update fails - and we will know why looking at LU log.

    The log is: C:\Documents and Setting\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate\log.liveupdate

    Thanks.

I am also having this problem.  I tried to find the log mentioned, but my server does not have a Documents and Setting directory.
