I just updated my endpoint managers to MR4, and sent the update out to the managed clients.   That is working fine.... and here comes the but....I have a bunch of unmanaged clients out in the field that get their updated dat's from symantec directly.   Here is the question, do they also get the current MR release through live update or do I have to go around to each unmanaged client and install MR4 manually?   Thank you for your help in advance.

Manually...Just no way around it, unless they are connected somehow to the network via a VPN maybe? Then you can push clients out when they connected into the Corporate network.

I hope that answers your question

The product update will only on SEPM not on unmanage client so you have to install it manually.

Or just do one thing go and manage your all unmanage client and upgrade through SEPM and set a LiveUpdate policy if they are not in corporate Lan then goto Symantec Server and poll Def updates.

    This will resolve your problem.

you will have to install manually as mentioned above, or else you could connect them to your corporate network and upgrade them...

Unmanaged clients will not get updates from the antivirus server, you have to update them manually.

You can configure unmanged clients to get updates directly from Internet also not from the Antivirus Server.

You can configure unmanged clients to get updates directly from Internet. And add schedule of luall.exe to run once every day.

    Kweidner

First u download the MR4 setup file and un on the unmanaged machine, cuz Liveupdate will only update definetions and not the product.

For the liveupdate u can carry on with the way u was, i mean manually either by download and executing or by Scheduling if the machine is connected to the internet.

So I will just have to manually install MR4 on our unmanaged machines.    SAP to SEP... so is this  true that after I install MR4 on the unmanaged computers that they will automatically download product updates from the internet automatically along with the usual defs?

This is the link to installing SEP manually, pretty easy though just next next read next ect.

I don't want to mislead you on your second question. Here is the run down. Live Update will push out security updates, and engine updates that all of your unmanged clients will recieve. But if you are refering to version upgrades then these will not get pushed out by the live server. In that case your unmanaged clients will not recieve product "version" upgrades. Hope that answers your question.

    Thanks Grant

Hi Kweder, after installing the unmanaged client, you can now schedule updates. them by opening the SEP software, go to settings, client management, then tweak the settings on the schedule updates tab, check enable automatic updates. But this is limited to security, engine updates only as what Grant said.

As for the product / version update, just check your symantec account regularly for latest releases. You can also ask your local sales to send notifications to you to get you informed when a new release is available.
