This issue has been solved. See solution.
Just installed SSR 2013 on a Win2003 server.
Tried to run liveupdate & got error
LU1814: LiveUpdate could not retrieve the catalog file of available Symantec product and component updates. Please verify that you are able to connect to the Internet and run LiveUpdate again.
However, I am connected to internet and am able to ping liveupdate.symantecliveupdate.com which appears to be the URL that is trying to be contacted.
Side note: LiveUpdate from Endpoint Protection works fine.
Help, please.

Can you see a Liveupdate Icon under control panel. Doubleclick on the Icon and try to fix the Liveupdate.
Also you can use the Downloaded file for SSR 2013 and install the Liveupdate from the installer package.

Thankyou for your reply, Tripti Rajusth!
LiveUpdate appears to work, it just does not seem to want to connect with the live update server and look for possible updates. It hangs with the message: "Connecting to liveupdate.symantecliveupdate.com.
I am able to ping that address successfully.
I did try uninstall/reinstall and still have the same problem.
On other computers on the network there is no problem with live update & symantec endpoint liveupdate on this computer works fine.
Might be a good idea to check if you have to configure proxy settings, this can be done from the Control Panel Applet for LiveUpdate.
Is the LiveUpdate client giving you a particular error code once it times out?

Just to end this question, I finally solved my problem.
For reasons not related to SSR, I uninstalled all of my old 6.x versions of Java.
When I then ran liveupdate from SSR, it worked.
