LiveUpdate Downloads But Then Does Nothing
Updated: 11 Jul 2010 | 8 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.
I ran the LiveUpdate via the Ghost Console 2.5 and it says it downloaded and it's completed the update but then doesn't do anything. Eventually, I click on cancel and it aborts the update process.

Live update
Hi,
When you run Live Update, a log file called ghupdlog.txt is placed in Program Files\Symantec\Ghost. Does this log indicate the reason for the problem?
When you run Live Update, a logfile is placed in c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\symantec\live update\log.liveupdate. Does this log indicate the reason for the problem?
Try moving the contents of the Live Update repository to a temporary backup location and re-run Live Update. Move the files from c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\Symantec\Live Update\Downloads to a backup location. Once the Downloads folder is cleared, run Live Update again.
If we can get any error message it will be very much useful for us to corner the reason for the problem and to fix it.
thanks

Sockkalingam, I tried your steps and it didn't work. I see that more files were present this time when I removed the others and ran the LiveUpdate again but the install doesn't happen after I get the message saying that the download is complete.
Randall, I've downloaded the file you sent me...so I'll try to run that and see if it works to update me to the latest version of Ghost Suite...thanks!
LiveUpdate Resolved
Ok, I turned off my anti-virus during the update and this time it worked, so it seems one of the access protection policies was preventing it from working. I also managed to download the full update for Ghost Suite 2.5.1 as well just in case.
The latest build now with this update on all 3 areas (Ghost Console, Ghost Explorer, and Ghost Boot Wizard) is 11.5.1.2266
For future reference where is the best place for me to check on the Symantec site or elsewhere what the latest version of the Ghost Suite is? I like checking the versions prior to running LiveUpdate to make sure my product updated successfully since I know at times you have to run more than one update to get all the way up to the latest version.
Build 2269
Randall,
I saw another post where the latest build that you're sending to people is Build 2269...does the download that I just downloaded for GSS2.5.1 have this build?
If so, then why isn't it updating via LiveUpdate. I just ran it again to make sure there wasn't any other updates and it says I'm up to date?
I also got an error message during the LiveUpdate previously...but when I clicked OK, it continued on and updated my GSS2.5 to 11.5.1.2266. I've attached a screen shot of this error message.
Build 2269
Hi
The latest version build is 11.5.1.2266 and you have downloaded the laetst version.
This 2269 is a patch file but not a latest build version.
Thanks

Patch
AngelC2,
The 2269 build is a patch designed to address specific issues, and should not be applied unless these issues are present. If Ghost is now working as it should, let's leave it that way. It is best not to apply patches of this sort unless needed, because sometimes the change in the "under-the-hood" behavior throws off the program in an environment where it is working. This is rare, but every environment is different.
The error message displayed should not be an issue. Ignore it for the present time. Additionally, it would be appreciated if you marked this thread as 'Solved'.
Thank you,
Randy
