    Hi,

I have 30 machines in my park, and I want all the posts retrieve updates automatically from the internet.

    Is that possible?

    Thanks,

    Yes.

They're currently managed by a SEPM, correct?

If so, just create a LiveUpdate policy and select the option to get updates from Symantec LU and apply it to the group(s) the clients are in.

    1. Click Policies in the left navigation bar.
    2. Select LiveUpdate.
    3. Under "Tasks" click Add a LiveUpdate Settings Policy.
    4. Enter a <Policy Name> , and then select Server Settings.
    5. Uncheck the Use the default management server (recommended) option and place a check by the Use a LiveUpdate Server option.
    6. Select Schedule in the left navigation bar and place a check in the box to select the Enable LiveUpdate Scheduling option.
    7. Designate the Frequency for clients to run LiveUpdate. (daily is recommended)
    8. Click OK
    9. When asked if you would like to assign this policy, click Yes to assign the policy.
    10. Select the group and/ or location to which you want this policy applied.
    11. Click Assign.
    12. When asked if you would like to assign the policy changes, click Yes to assign the policy.

Are you using unmanaged sep client ?

If yes SEP client automatic update for internet

Any changes you need to make would need to be done manually.

Since the clients are unmanaged, they should already be going out to the Internet for updates.

You can verify by opening the client and going to Change Settings >> Client Management >> Configure Settings >> LiveUpdate tab

You should see a schedule set here.

Are you logged in as admin?

In the first installation, the clients were configured to retrieve their updates from the server. After we had problems so I have to see how to set the items to retrieve updates without going through the server.

    I have two choices:
    Install a local server
Set positions to automate the installation of updates.

I do not know if this is possible or not?

So than I don't understand, is the tab greyed out?

  • 14.  RE: Liveupdate EPP in the workgroup

Open sep client, select help and support, click on troubleshooting if its managed it will show server name or else it will show " unmanged"

All unmanaged clients are configured to get updated from internet automatically

So these clients were managed by a SEPM in the past and are now unmanaged?

  • 16.  RE: Liveupdate EPP in the workgroup

    Yes!

  • 17.  RE: Liveupdate EPP in the workgroup

So it sounds like at one point these were managed by a SEPM and than went unmanaged. If that's the case, they were not properly configured before making them unmanaged so that when they did go unmanaged you should've had full control over them. Am I correct in this assumption?

Sooooo, it sounds like you might have managed endpoints installed (what with the LiveUpdate options being greyed out any everything).

In which case, the below article might be of use to you (this tells you how to change a SEP client back to being unmanaged).

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH92877

As the others have mentioned, a typical unmanaged SEP client is already set to updated from the Symantec Liveupdate servers on the Internet.

I have a problem of communication between clients and server, plus I do not have the possibility to check why!

So you don't have access to the SEPM? Can you talk to the admin?

You need to enable sylink logging on the client to find out what is going on:

    Yes!

If you cannot get them connected back to the SEPM, the clients will need to be re-installed. The clients were not properly configured before making them unmanaged. There are steps that need to be taken to make sure you have full access to the client before going from managed to unmanaged.

Can you get them connected back to the SEPM or is this no longer a possibility?

In case you don't have access SEPM console you can get touch with your SEPM admin and convert managed client to unmanaged with the help of SEPM console admin.

    Hello,

It is better to install an unmaanged client and do the testing and rolled it out to production.
