Hi,

I need to configure clients on the network (laptops) to contact LiveUpdate directly when not connected to the corporate network for their definition udpates. Now the one way I can see of doing this is to go to All Tasks > LiveUpdate > Configure and then under 'Internal LiveUpdate Server' have another record pointing to 'liveudpate.symantecliveupdate.com'. Would this work so that clients would first check whichever internal live udpate servers I have configured and then if they can't be found to go externally?

Is there any other easy way of configuring a policy like this? Especially for laptops which aren't connected to the corporate network sometimes for extended periods of time...

Cheers,
Hanré

hi,
create a group for laptops, apply said policy. You include the symantec liveupdate and also Interal LU server under internal liveupdate server configuration.

Location Awareness

Read up on location awareness, it's probably the best methodology to address this issue.

Location awareness features expanded from what previously existed in the Symantec Client Security product. Symantec Endpoint Protection expands location awareness support to the group level. Each group can be divided into multiple locations; and when a client is in that location, policies can be applied to that location.

Liveupdate server priority

You can add LiveUpdate servers and click on Move Up or Move Down to set the clients connection priorities. You should also create groups when doing this. Divide it so that when one group connects to one server the other groups connect to the other (could be to the Internet) but only if you want PCs updated to the latest patches ASAP. Symantec sometimes releases 2 or more per day.
