LiveUpdate service, numerous stop/starts

Created: 06 Feb 2008 • Updated: 21 May 2010 | 2 comments
Using Symantec EndPoint Protection version 11.0.780.1109, LiveUpdate version 3.3.0.61 on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2.  The System event log keeps showing three Information type events roughly one minute apart:

1 - The LiveUpdate service was successfully sent a start control.
2 - The LiveUpdate service entered the running state.
3 - The LiveUpdate service entered the stopped state.

None of our Microsoft Windows Server 2000, Microsoft Windows XP Professional or Microsoft Windows Vista Business boxes show these events with the same frequency, on average they may appear once an hour.  I am concerned that the constant stopping and starting of the service is going to eat up resources and eventually make the server unusable.  If nothing, it certainly is filling up the event log.   We have not experienced any downtime due to this to date, just trying to get a feel as to whether this is normal or not and if not what can I do to fix it.

Thanks
Steven

In the SEPM console, go to Clients>Policies tab>Communications Settings.  Change from the default Push mode to Pull and increase the Heartbeat interval (15 minutes is my choice).
