remove liveupdate
remove liveudpate folders
reboot
install liveudpate from CD1
do a repair of sep from add/remove programs
run liveupdate and check,.

I think you answer will most likely be given by one of the posts above, but I am curious as to what Anti-virus you had on this computer prior to the install of RU5. Most of the time we see this error is because of leftover from a previous install (or a corrupt download). Please let us know if you still don't have your issue solved but if you do mark which one was the most helpful so future users can navigate directly to it.

Try this :-
Uninstall both LU and Symantec Endpoint Protection.
Delete the following folders:
C:\Program Files\Symantec
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared
C:\Users\All Users\Applications\Symantec (Windows Vista Home Premium; other Win OS's would be C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec)
Restart the computer.
Re-install LU and Symantec Endpoint Protection
