  • 1.  loading of boot.wim is very slow

    Hello,

I have a problem when I load the boot.wim after a PXE boot. The loading is very slow (> 1 hour).

I do not know if the problem may be the drivers (winPE drivers) or network (Cisco devices).

    Have you any idea ?

Thank you have a nice day.

Downloading the boot.wim file is slow? Then it's not a driver problem. There is driver loaded in the face. The driver is loaded when winpe boots from the ram drive.
Could be a problem on the network, or wrong MTU package size on PXE Server. Does it affect all clients (different hardware models), all subnets? Make sure you have installed the latested bios updates on the clients, sometimes the fix such issues with bios updates.

Yes it's affect all clients (with different hardware models) in the subnet.

I will check the MTU value in my network cisco configuration and on the PXE Server.

When i do the first install, the image wim download was fast. The only thing i have modify it's the drivers in the boot image, after this change the problem appears.

I will try to start with a new install and check if the problem is resolve.

Being as I am in another subet, I configured the following options at the DHCP :

    043 vendor specific info                               Standard             06 01 0b 08 07 aa aa 01 9d 1a a6 5b 00

066 Boot server Host Name                         Standard             157.26.166.91

    067 Bootfile Name                                       Standard             \bstrap\x86pc\bstrap.o
At the PXE configuration, I checked the following box :

    • No DHCP server installed on PXE server (use DHCP port)

    It's correct ?

After the test I will put some details on my problem in the next post.

Thank you and have a nice day !

Have you tried to simple rebuild your current WinPE? Perhaps something went wrong during the build process.

Can you test the PXE boot process on the same segment as the server? This will let you know if a bottleneck has been introduced in crossing the subnet boundary.
