Local Guest Account still needed?

Created: 06 Jun 2012 | 3 comments

Does the version of Recovery Solution that comes with ITMS 7.1 SP2 still require that a local guest account named XUSR_RepNDM be created on the server?  I know this was required in the older versions but wanted to confirm it was NOT needed in the newer ones.

...but it does NOT ned to be an administrator since 6.2 sp4. I haven't installed a rs 7.1 yet...:(

Any insight on this would be great.  Our InfoSec department requires that we file an exception because this account had a password we could not change in the older version.

SO I have finally got one of my test RS 6.2 boxes upgraded (successfully, btw!) to RS 7.1, and it looks like (per the cluster properties at least!) that you can get rid of the XUSR_RepNDM account now, and apparently replace it with a domain service account (the following was a copy/paste from the cluster properties, so it is a bit messed up...looks really nice in "Edit" mode though!):

This user will be added to the Recovery Solution Users local group on each Recovery server of this cluster. The user will be given the access rights to execute schedule and background tasks.
Note: In case of a local user enter only the user name. The local user will be created on each Recovery Server of this Recovery Cluster. Ensure that the entered password meets complexity requirements on the Recovery Server, otherwise the user will not be created and the server will not work. In case of a domain user enter the user name in the following format: domainname\username.
