Local Storage RAID disks upgrade

Hello.

We need to upgrade our 6x 1 Tera SATA local disks to 6x 3 Tera SATA disks.

Since the disks are not of the same size, we cannot replace one by one and let the RAID rebuild. We will have to start from scratch and copy the backup data to the new disks.

Can anyone give some advice on the best approach for the operation?

We are running Backup Exec 2010 on a Windows 2008 x64 Server.

Thanks in advice for your help.

Cheers,

Roeseler

Hi,

Make a backup of the server including data and system state.

Pull the drives out and replace with the new drives.

Install Windows Server 2008 x4 and patch. Install BE 2010 Rx and patch.

Restore your data, including the System State which is done last.

Thanks!

Hi Craig, thanks so much for the fast reply!

We have the OS installed on separate disks so, do you think it is still necessary to install the OS from scratch?

Can we just remove the old storage disks and replace with the new drives and restore the data and System state from the Tape backup drives?

Thanks!

Hi,

No...if you aren't reinstalling your OS, then leave it as is. Rip out the old drives, put in the new drives and restore the data.

No need to restore the System State as the OS isn't being touched.

Thanks!
