  • 1.  Lock screens or blank screens using Altiris 7?

A professor would like to blank out screens in a Windows XP lab managed by Altiris.  Are there any methods built in to Windows or Altiris 7 that can do this?  Obviously I would build a restrictive view for the professor so that he can only manage his lab and only with this particular task.  The method must be real-time and cannot be overriden by students.  It's an "eyes up here" type of feature we're looking for.

I may be looking at a $500 answer for 15 computers, would be nice if it were free.  Anyone have experience with this?

A long time ago Altiris actually had a product called Altiris Vision that would do that but it either died or they sold it many years ago.  Other than having some lab/teaching software (I am assuming this is the $500 answer you are reffering to)  I am not aware of any easy and reliable method to do it.

It was sold by the company who purchased it from Altiris, and the price is $500 for a lab of 15 computers or fewer.  Here's hoping for a free or cheap alternative.

There is nothing built in for lab management type things, but using task you could build a script that would do it for you.  Depends on how much you're willing to tinker vs. the cost associate with using a 3rd party product.  Altiris never really got into the educational lab management market.
