Long delay after image is deployed

  • 1.  Long delay after image is deployed

After updating from Ghost Server 8 to GSS 2.0 and then 2.0.1, we are experiencing a huge delay immediately after an image (Windows XP-SP2) is deployed and right before the system first boots to Windows to start Sysprep.
On newer systems, this delay is acceptable, but on some older systems (f.e. Compaq Deskpro D330) we have to wait 12 minutes before the first boot. Older systems mean longer delays.
After some testing, we discovered that this has something to do with the length of the sysprep.inf file. After deleting almost all entries in the SysprepMassstorage section, the length of the 'pause' decreases dramatically.

We are using one image to deploy to all our pc's, so we use a sysprep.inf file that includes the SysprepMassstorage section also for systems that have IDE-hard disks. The section has been built using "sysprep.exe -bmsd". This has never been a problem with Ghost 8 and we really want to keep it that way, because more images means more maintenance.

We would like to know if there is a workaround or fix for this problem.

    Regards,
    Raymond
