Is it normal for the job to take longer when switching from append to overwrite? We are running 11d using B2D. Jobs are taking 1.5 times longer when they switch from append to media and go to overwriteable media.

Hi Christopher, Yes and

Hi Christopher,

Yes and no.

When using Append, it's going to add data onto that tape until it cannot anymore. The tape then gets write protected as per your retention policy.

When using Overwrite, the data gets written to the tape, and then write protected. When it's made available to scratch media, the tape is then erased. This is the only time it should be adding to your backup times.

With you running this to disk, it could be taking a longer time to erase the B2D file, and make it available.

Laters!

If you find this is a solution, please mark it as such.

It appears that the problem

It appears that the problem was related to a Windows update for Server 2003 x64. After installing the lastest batch of updates from Microsoft the verification times are back to normal.
