  • 1.  Lotus Notes Auto-Protect ineffective?

    Posted Jan 25, 2016 11:18 AM

    Hi

In an article by IBM I read the following line:

Beginning with Notes 7.0.3 and Notes 8.0, Notes disables this functionality by no longer loading the NLNVP DLL.

So, what is best practice in terms of Lotus Notes Auto-Protect? Enable or disable?

    Cheers

If you don't have email scanning at your gateway then your end users are unprotected. If you do have gateway scanning then this is redundant.

Are you telling me that Lotus Notes Auto-Protect is still effective with IBM Notes 9?

Would email attachments not automatically be handled by Auto-Protect?

I used in 7/8, not sure on 9 since I'm not on Notes any longer.

Well. How would I find out if LN Auto-Protect is effective in Notes 9, without infected email at hand?

Open a support case with Symantec.

You can send a zipped EICAR test virus as attachment to a SEP client with LN Auto-Protect. See here: http://www.eicar.org/85-0-Download.html

You should download a zipped file, otherwise SEP IPS will block the download (if enabled).
