LPAD sync failing

    Hi Group,

I have yet another problem now after changing the domain admin password due to someone leaving.  I have updated the password in SMS SMTP do a test login and a test query and both pass and it displays results from the query.  But when I look at the settings page it says LDAP sync failed.  Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Dave

Here is what I get in the email:

LDAPAuthAndSync Jun 24, 2008 01:21:18 PM EDT Failed Normal sync failed (80 | Error in LDAP operation | Unknown error

[Additional Information] <Q49> LDAP Connector - Invalid credentials * <Q40000> LDAP Connector - Backend LDAP Directory Server is unavailable ( ldap.server.com:389 ) * 80 | Error in LDAP operation | Unknown error

    [Additional Information] <Q49> LDAP Connector - Invalid credentials * <Q40000> LDAP Connector - Backend LDAP Directory Server is unavailable ( ldap.server.com:389 ) * )

Is there any password limitations?  The login test works but who knows what it can store.

Also in the error.log.1 this shows up.

    Hi Dave,

I've just run the same test on my test lab and couldn't see any problem by following these steps:
    1. added ldap source
    2. sync + replication: ok
    3. changed domain admin paswword
    4. rebooted server
    5. changes admin password in ldap source
    6. started sync again... all fine

So it looks like the password can be changed with no problems.

Also, we recommend you to use a specific ldap administrator account created just for smssmtp5 ldapsync, in order to avoid changing the domain admin password every time.

Should you still experience issues with your ldapsync, I'd suggest you to open a case in Symantec Support.

    Regards

    Thanks Matia,

Do you know what the password limitations are as far as length?  Also restarting the servers didn't help any.

    Hi Dave,

I'm not aware of particular limitations to the password length... how many chars are in yours? I could run a few tests to make sure we can work with long fields.

You may need to remove and re-add the LDAP source in order to make it working again, but I reckon it should work fine without need to remove/readd. At least it did for me on smssmtp5, latest patch.

    Regards

    Hi Matia,

Actually it's the same length as before, 18 chrs long, no other special chrs added, just more shifts, there are now 6 total.

    Thanks,

    Dave

Also to note this exact same problem happened on two different control centers.

    Thanks Dave,

ok, what you can do is troubleshoot the Control Center while you try to save again the ldap source after changing the password:

    1) enable DEBUG logging level on control center via the following CLI command:

$  cc-config --log controlcenter --level DEBUG

    2) reproduce the problem (click save on ldap source page after testing query)

    3) have a look at the BirghtmailLog.log (diagnostics command can package it for you) at the same time and look for any error you can spot there.

    4) Hopefully you may search our public KB for that error code/message and find possible next steps for your troubleshooting, otherwise please post here the cc-log snippet so I can have a look.

    Regards

    Thants Matia,

The solution is to delete and then recreate the LDAP settings, I did them exactly the same as before but it can sync now,

I'm having problem that my server is losing the settings of the LDAP, it is not the first time.
And when I lose the settings can not delete the entries again to recreate the LDAP, I can not syncronizar.
I would like to know how to recreate the information from the LDAP on my server.

    Someone could help me.
