I have an LU1835 error and my endpoint liveupdate timesout before downloading properly.

I have read the most common solution to this on other forums eg.

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/sharedtech.nsf/docid/2004081310440013?Open&docid=2006042008195848&nsf=ent-security.nsf&view=2326c6a13572aeb788257363002b62aa

I have located the file "settings.liveupdate" within the liveupdate folder and changed it to not-read-only

but how do you 'open' it?

If I open it in notepad for example, it comes up as a blank document, if I open it in symantec endpoint it does not come up as an editable text file.

    Thanks.

With notepad you should be able to edit it.Try by repairing SEP client from add/remove programs...

The Settings.LiveUpdate should have text in it and be able to be opened by simple text editors, like Notepad for example.  It's unusual for the file to be blank.

LiveUpdate makes copies of critical files by design.  You can make use of this by opening one of these files and using it to replace your existing Settings.LiveUpdate.

I recommend you take the 1.Settings.LiveUpdate, open it with Notepad and "Save As" Settings.LiveUpdate.

If the 1.Settings.LiveUpdate file is in the same condition as the Settings.LiveUpdate, check 2 and 3.Settings.LiveUpdate.  Hopefully, one of thes files will be in good shape.

    Good Luck

It definately should not be a blank document.  What is the size of the file?  If it truly is empty, I would first try to uninstall/reinstall LiveUpdate then run a repair on the SEP client to register it back with LiveUpdate.

If its coming up blank then it must be corrupt. Re-install and re-register Liveupdate
