 New versions of LiveUpdate

New versions of LiveUpdate Administrator are periodically released, containing new features, enhancements and improvements.  Performance, usability and stability can be greatly improved, for instance, by upgrading from LUA 2.1 or LUA 2.2 to the newer LUA 2.3.  As a best practice, always use the latest available release of LUA 2.x.

Thanks In Advance...

Hi it is better to remove old

Hi

it is better to remove old LUA and install the new one

Take backup of CLU-PROD folder from (programfiles/symantec/SymantecLiveupdateAdministrator)

you can restore till date updates from the above folder by sharing and temporarily targeting as symantec liveupdate server after pulling update you can remove sharing and route to pull update from liveupdate update server directly

I'd highly recommend...

...contacting Symantec Support to obtain the latest version of LUA (v2.3.1.82).  The version you are trying to install uses an EOL database.

Here're some LUA details:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH155523

This should take precedence over troubleshooting your current installation issue, because if you were to encounter any problems later on and require Symantec's help, they will tell you to upgrade.

Be Sure to Select the Correct Components for What You Need

Hi there,

Is SEP 12.1 the only Symantec product in your organization?  If so, is there a specific requirement in the network wheich means an LUA server is necessary?  (The SEPM can usually download and distribute everything its clients need.)

When is it Recommended to Use LiveUpdate Administrator 2.x with Symantec Endpoint Protection?
Article URL http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH154896

If your only Symantec product is SEP 12.1, this article will be very useful:

LiveUpdate Administrator: Product Selection Guide
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/liveupdate-administrator-product-selection-guide

If you have SEP 11 as well:

LiveUpdate Administrator 2.x: What product selections are needed for specific versions of Symantec Endpoint Protection?
Article URL http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH139618

Hope this helps!  &: )

With thanks and best regards,

Mick

Updates can be marked as

Updates can be marked as either Skip Test or Must Test. Updates that do not have to be tested can be sent directly to a production distribution center and are available for immediate downloading (skip testing).

hope this answers your

hope this answers your questions

LiveUpdate Administrator is an enterprise Web application that allows you to manage updates on multiple internal Central Update servers, called Distribution Centers. Using LiveUpdate Administrator, you download updates to the Manage Updates folder, and then send the updates to production distribution servers for Update clients to download, or to testing distribution centers, so that the updates can be tested before they are distributed to production.

onl;y contents related to SEP

onl;y contents related to SEP 12.1 will be downloaded, hence you will save bandwidth. However note that SEP 11 definition content will not there the client will not get the updates. ALso you have to check the LU policy for these clients (SEP 11)
