  • 1.  LUA File Sizes Compared to Intelligent Updater

    Hi,

I have a network that is not connected to the Internet (nor can it be). It has approximately 40 computers connected to it, with some in remote locations connected to fiber.

The network that is connected to the network has very limited bandwidth.

I am currently updating these machines using Intelligent Updater (about 320MB), performed once a month. I am interested in using LUA installed on an Internet connected machine to download the required files, and transfer these files to a LUA server on the non-Internet network for all the clients to access.

I am astonished to see that just 11.0 32 bit would required a staggering 3.2GB initial download, and I've read reports in downloads some 300MB a day.

I really just need LUA to be 'up-to-date' once a month. What is the absolute minimal settings/products I need to do this? Does EVERY file listed in Content Update need to be available - and need to be updated every day?

Why does LUA need 3.2GB to start, followed by 300MB a day, when the Intelligent Updater just needs 320MB whenever you feel like getting a copy? SEPM also seems to only need a 386MB jdb file downloaded to update itself.

    Mike

Intelligent updater is just AV content, LUA will download content for all components

@James007 Thanks, but I've already read this.

@_Brian The biggest initial download IS the AV Content.

    Virus Definitions 115967.81 No 1402934882jtun_nav2k8enn04m25.m25
    Virus Definitions 357618.00 No 1402934882jtun_nav2k8enn08m25.m25
    Virus Definitions 4702.95 No 1403590294jtun_nav2k8en140619023.m25
    Virus Definitions 3904.67 No 1403590294jtun_nav2k8en140620009.m25

And so on. This totals about 3.2GB of 'Virus Definitions', which is far more than the 320-386MB Intelligent Updater file is.

Every day, Symantec bundle up a new jdb and Intelligent Updater file, presumably with every AV definition required. I don't understand how LUA needs so much more space.
