  • 1.  Mac Boot Camp with PGP WDE - Very Slow / Performance Issues

    Posted Oct 10, 2011 11:04 AM

Hello, I just installed PGP WDE for Mac OS X Lion (10.7.1), using PGP WDE's recent update, 10.2 MP1. It appears to be successfully installed on both the Mac and Windows side, and I believe I properly followed the instructions applicable to a boot camp partition. On the Windows 7 64-bit side, I have PGP WDE 10.2, Build 1672. The install was on a brand new iMac, 2.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i5.

The problem is that the lag / performance is almost unbearable for what this machine should be doing. Any task with modest disk usage brings usability to an obvious lag, and periodically throughout normal use you'll see things like ghosting of applications windows and other random signs of general performance issues. This experience, I suppose, is being compared to: 1.) Running FileVault encryption in Mac OS X and a virtualized Windows 7 and 2.) Older hardware Boot Camp iMac's without PGP WDE. Both are running Windows 7 and applications faster than this native, PGP encrypted install.

So my questions are these, with hopes of fixing this issue:

    - Is there an obvious thing I could have done wrong that causes this?

    - Is there a new version available for Windows that is more closely related to the MP1 version in the Mac OS?

    - Is this a Mac issue or general PGP WDE performance issue?

    - Can anything else be done to improve performance?

    Thanks

We are now on build 1950 for PGP Desktop 10.2 for Windows. We don't even support Lion OS on Mac until this most recent build. Have you tried upgrading (on both operating systems) to see if this helps?

Note: I noticed that you said something about MP1 for Windows - that is the build 1950. It should be available for download through our Fileconnect site or https://licensing.symantec.com where you obtained the latest version for your Mac. You must be on the same version and build number for both machines (recommended).
