MAC Bridge service start failures

Created: 14 May 2007 • Updated: 02 Mar 2009
I have installed Backup Exec 9.1 plus the latest service pack for it on a Windows 2003 Server with Service Pack 2.  When the BE services start they each create an  error event in the System Event log with the following details:

The MAC Bridge service failed to start due to the following error:

The system cannot find the file specified.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

This is annoying as they obviously get posted during system startup resulting in the usual 'One or More Services failed to start dialog'.  If I uninstall Backup Exec the event log entries are no longer created.

It looks like each of the BE services is trying to start the MAC Bridge service using an incorrect parameter.  If I check the executable for the service in the registry I can see that the file does actually exist.

There is a similar post about this issue in the version 10.0 forum.  Seems to be a W2K3 SP2 incompatibility of some sort.
