  • 1.  MAC OSX hostname change not picked up by Altiris

I renamed a few macs and Altiris did not pickup the new hostname. I even deleted the object and run basic inventory to recreate the object but that did not help either. Any ideas? I did not try uninstalling/reinstalling agent yet.

    How/where did you rename them?

Are they connected to a domain?

What is shown by running the 'hostname' command in Terminal?

Hi Doug, we use Likewise to join MACs to AD. I renamed the machine using the Likewise client. In the hosts file and also the terminal, the right name is displayed. I even uninstalled and reinstalled agent, but don't see the name change in NS.

Hi. Try running 'aex-helper info resource' to see what the values for the various resource keys are on that mac.

Also, see KB# HOWTO85011 to see how we create those values.

Settings that determine if we use the local computer values or DNS values are found in the NS console at Settings, All Settings, Agents/Plug-ins, Symantec Management Agent, Settings, Symantec Management Agent Settings - Targeted, then select the appropriate filter, Click on the 'UNIX/Linux/Mac' then check the 'Computer information' section.

Try adjusting those targeted settings. Reply if things still don't match up. If needed, please consider creating a support case.

After I ran aex-helper info resource I get the incorrect computer name. The agent settings are set to use Local name.
