Actually, that is incorrect. Java LiveUpdate (JLU) utilizes Java, and newer versions of the Mac OS do not include Java. When attempting to run LiveUpdate, I believe Software Update will prompt to install Java. If not, you can download and install the version appropriate to your operating system version from Apple's website.

Correct, Java is not required for the SEP client on Windows.

SEP client does not need Java. SEPM console comes with its own java integrated. You would need only separate Java for webconsol/remote console.
With Apple blocking Java releases, http://www.zdnet.com/apples-anti-malware-blacklist... , is this going to affect SEP on Macs?

SEP for Mac uses JLU to connect to the Symantec server to download definitions, right? That's a Java requirement there, isn't it?
JLU is specific to Symantec (their product) not something from Oracle. Java is Oracle, JLU is Symantec
