    Hello,

I'm trying to migrate from win xp to win7, when booting Lenovo 9645 to winpe4.0 x86 it says:

Validating the network connection <validation criteria = -169.254>...

Restarting DHCP client service: retry 1....

I understand that this is because relevant network drivers are not being found due to which machine is unable to communicate with the DHCP for IP registration.

I added the preboot drivers to the Altiris DB, and I see it's present in the folder. I rebuilt the PE envierment and updated it on the client.

but when I reboot to PE it's not working. when I do ipconfig I see that there is no network card detected.

I tried loading the driver manualy in the PE with drvload.exe and it works fine, gets the ip and so on.

    Please help.

    Thank you.

Question for you.  Are you booting this machine off of a USB drive or CD with the ISO burnt onto it?  I know that whenever I added new drivers for the preboot deployment...I had to create a new boot disc through the BootWiz and then pushed it to my thumb drive.  I was then able to load the network drivers and push the image that way.

Are you probably missing soem controller drivers here? New hardware quite often does not just require the NIC, but also chipset or controller drivers...

one other thing - it's also possible that even though you ADDED the right drivers, there may be an older driver in the STD folder that is being found and used, incorrectly.  We ran into that and had to remove the older drivers to make the newer ones work.

    Just a thought.

Thomas and BBC both are correct

Both can cause the issue, and one third that can cause is that the driver inf file does not actually have a match.

Sometimes drivers can work manually but will not be automaticly load cause the inf file does not have the device ID inside of it
