  • 1.  Machine restart with Altiris

Hi we use Altiris as Patch-Management Solution. In the past we restarted the machines (Windows 2003 Server SP1 & SP2) with a Script outside from Altiris.

Now we try to move this function into the NS. Therefore I created a Schedule Task (\Configuration\Server Settings\Notification Server Setting\Shared Schedules) for 3 o’ clock in the morning.
After that I go to Tasks\task management\ samples \ clients task samples\ restart

Here I create a new Task select the shared schedule I created before and choose a group of computer which I want to reboot. Everything is looking fine for me. After that I have a new task in the list. If I now push the right mouse button and chose “start now” the symbol is changing to a green triangle. (It seems so that the task is running).

But unfortunately nothing happens! The servers don’t restart and I have no idea where I can start to investigate....

    All I see there are 12 resources 0% succeded 0 failed…. That’s all

    Any Idea? somthing i forgot??

    Thanks and Regards, Toka

    Hello Toka,
Did you make sure the servers had the Client Task Agent and Power Management Agents installed? Also, make sure there is a Task Server assigned to the collection.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    This should be the problem...

Where can I configure that? I can't find it...

Using the 6.5 console, all the Task Server features can be accessed using the Manage -> Jobs function.

Thanks for your help Jim! I used the old console before that was the reason why I was not able to find it. After I installed the task Agent and the Power M Agent the machine reboots.

But I have 2 other small questions.

    1. Is it possible to change completely to the new console? Or is there a reason also to use the old one?
    2. What do you mean when you say “Also make sure there is a task server assigned to the collection”???

    Thanks for your support Regards,

    Torsten

    1. It sure is. The two consoles run independent of each other. There are a few (very few) objects which aren't accessible via the 6.5 console, such as the AD import connector. You can always save these as a favorite though.

2.Task Servers, at least in 6.0, are assigned to collections, very different from package servers, which are assigned by ip addresses, and sites\subnets. If you were able to deliver the tasks, then you must have it setup right!
