Mail notification from masterserver with windows 2003 server
Updated: 23 May 2010 | 6 comments
Hi !
I didnt find anything in the NB-Guides, or im blind.
I have a NetBackup 6 masterserver on a windows 2003 server.
Till now i have two backupserver on a solaris system, and the e-mailnotification from the server to the clients-administrator works without problems.
What must i do on a windows mashine that the server sends statusmails after a backup i done to the client administrator ?
Did i need a mailaccount, or a mailclient ?
I want to sent a mail after a backup is done to the administrator of every client.
Is there a technote, or a workaround, or a manual in the guides, that i didnt find ?

Hi,
Search for a file called NBMAIL.CMD in your Netbackup directory
(Netbackup\bin I think)
If you open it it provides enough details to help you out :)
Once you downloaded & installed BLAT, don't forget to remove the REM statements from the NBMAIL.CMD file though!
Patch first, coz Maintenance Packs overwrite the CMD file (For obscure reasons)
Good luck!Message was edited by:

Hi Manfred !
German ? Perhaps you can mail me, and we can talk via Mail !
Ok, I have BLAT and Blatguy but this, i think, is not what i want.
I have more than 200 various clients to backup, that are servers and workstations.
On every client i can set a mailadress, and the server sends a notification to this mailadress, who is the User from this client, with a message like this :
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Subject: Backup on server123 - 0
Backup on client server123 for user root by server mastersun succeeded.
Policy = 2.Backup-Server
Schedule = Backup-Server_INC
File list
---------
/
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So the user can see, the backup has done (0) , or a statuscode other than 0.
With BLAT and nbmail.cmd i can send a statusmessage to one or many users, but not a "individual" message to a user of a client. OR ?
With my sun-masterservers i set the emailadress of the user in the client-properties, and the server send a statusmessage ( see above ) to the user, after a done backup, not time triggered.

Nope, not German: Just a half German mom ;)
NBMAIL.CMD is called after each individual job is finished (Not timed/scheduled otherwise).
It should do the job for ya...
Give it a try :)
