  • 1.  Managed SEP client install on Win8 machines failing

    Hello,

We are experiencing random issues when trying to run an install package for a managed SEP client on windows 8 machines (version 12.1.2015.2015). Sometimes it installs without issue and other times the install fails. The package was created from the management server as a single .exe file. If the installation fails we run cleanwipe, reboot multiple times, and try the install again. At times we have to do this two or three more times before the install is successful. This only happens when installing on Windows8 machines, Windows 7 machines do not have an issue. Please note that we have many Windows 8 machines where the installation was not an issue and was successful on the first attempt. I have attached the install log of the latest failure. We tried the install more than once on this machine and the install simply fails and rollsback the installation every time. Any ideas?

Thank you for you anticipated help on this issue.

    Have you seen/tried this:

Symantec Endpoint Protection client fails to install to recently updated Windows 8 computers

Disable Windows Defender and remove KB2781197 and try the install again.

Or upgrade to 12.1 RU3 as this release fixes the problem.

New fixes and features in Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.3

    Brian81,

Thanks for the reply. I did see that in another post. We looked at this with a previous client machine. When we removed the update the install still failed. We eventually did get the client to install properly but it wasn;'t the first attempt after uninstalling this windows update.

    As per the SIS log

It failed to stop windows defender by SEP install, hence it rolledback.

However make sure to disable completely Windows Defender in Services.msc also.

    Reboot

Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.2 Installation failed on computer with Microsoft Security Essentials

if you have security essentials remove that too..

    Rafeeq,

Thanks for your response. That corrected the issue for this installation. Once we disabled Defender the client installed without issue. Thanks again.

Question: In past versions of SEP didn't the install process automatically disable Defender?

Did you disable Windows Defender as I suggested?

It used to but somehow this one was not. HTP, take care.
