Managed Software Delivery Compliance Warning?

Created: 16 Aug 2012 | 4 comments

I'm using Software Management Solution 7.1 SP2 and created a software resource to uninstall the Microsoft Office File Validation Add-In.  However, when I go to create a managed s/w delivery policy and select my uninstall command-line, I get the text shown, below.  My command line type is already set to "Uninstall" so was wondering if this text in red is normal or whether something's wrong with the s/w resource I created in my catalog?  Thanks in advance!

msiexec.exe /X {90140000-2005-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE} /quiet

To detect the compliance status for this software the command line type must be either Install or Uninstall. If the policy compliance status is required, consider changing the command line or changing the command line type. Selected command line type:

The first sentence in red should say "The command line type is Custom|Repair".

If you have this missing it looks like your Software Resource hasn't created properly. Try deleting and recreating your command lines first, otherwise just delete and recreate the whole Resource.

Tried deleting/recreating both my command-line and the whole resource but got the same results.  Perhaps I'm doing something wrong so am attaching a few screenshots.  Note that I'm running SMP 7.1 SP2 with the v4 pointfix rollup.

Another thing I noticed is that if I edit the resource at the first step of creating a managed s/w delivery job and just click "OK" out of it, "undefined" quickly flashes after "Selected command line type:".  Don't know why it's saying this when I clearly have "Uninstall" selected in my command line.

Do you still get the red text if you go ahead and create the Policy?

If I ignore the red text, click "Next" then "Back", it disappears but reappears if I go to edit the command line.  I went ahead and created the policy without further issue.  Playing around with the Command Line dropdown in the policy itself didn't produce the red text I saw when creating the policy via the Managed Software Delivery wizard.

On the flipside, if I do a Quick Delivery Task, no issue with red text message where the job runs as expected.  Sure sounds like some funky bug; perhaps with the v4 pointfix rollup I'm running.  Note that this was my first managed software delivery job I created doing a packageless uninstall using an MSI command line whereas I have yet to come across this red text issue with my install jobs.
