  • 1.  Managed Software Delivery - Uninstalling superseeded software

Hi There, i am very new to managed software deliveries and altiris in general and i have been setting up some Policies to install the latest version of software for my company.

I am having problems with my policies where if a product i am trying to install has a old version on the client machine the managed software delivery will fail when trying to uninstall. here is an example.

I set up a managed delivery policy for adobe reader 9.3.3, 9.1 and 9.2 have been setup as superseeded versions to 9.3.3. I have created uninstall commands and detection rules for both 9.1 and 9.2. I setup the task to automatically upgrade the client if older versions have been detected and in the advanced options i hve double checked that the agent credentials are being used. When the task is run on a machine with a locally logged on admin account the task will detect the old software, remove it and also install without any problems but when i apply the same policy to a machine with a non admin account the uninstall fails. I can see in the event log that the uninstall is being performed by the logged in user and not the altiris agent credentials.

If i manually remove the old version and then rerun the task on the non admin users machine the policy then successfully installs the latest version using the agent credentials. It seems to just do the uninstalls using the logged on credentials.

I have tried created quick delivery tasks to uninstall the software with the non admin logged in and this also works fine and uses the agent credentials.... i have tried this with several different applications and the result is the same.

    Any advise welcome.....
    Thanks
    Tom

listed in AKB 52863. Can you attempt the work around provided there?

I have just some across this KB but to me that work around defeats the whole point of a managed software delivery. My estate currently has several versions of adobe installed so i would need to create tasks for every one of these versions to uninstall. am i right in saying that each task would have to run on every machine regardless of what version is installed or can i do a detect before selecting which task to run?

    Thanks

I know not every application is like this, but IIRC Acrobat uninstalls old versions by default, so you should have to worry about that application...  Yes, I know the bug needs fixed, but hopefully that helps.
