  • 1.  Management Server Configuration Wizard login

I've just updated my SEP Management from 11.7 to 12.1 RU1.

I wanted to install some clients with some packages from the management console but they could not be pushed. Sometimes this happens (known Symantec issue) so I used the workaround to reconfigure the database to be able to deploy the clients. So I run the Management Server Configuration Wizard with all the default settings so I can depoy agents again.

At one point I get the error that it cannot connect to the database, you give up your credentials and you should be good to go. Unfortunately in the 11.7 version the credentials for this database was the user "admin" with a password. Now in the 12.1 RU1 it is the user "DBA".. I tried every password that I could think of but it says that the credentials do not match.

I also used resetpass.bat, but that should would mean that it's changed in admin/admin, so where is that DBA user password?

    I tried this manual:

    http://www.homidoit.com/?p=164

But I do not get the password in the file, only junk that reffers to other stuff..

Does anyone has any idea how to get that DBA password, or reset it so I can run the wizard again to get my clients deployed?

I'm moving this to the SEP forum - I hope you'll get some help there.

    Try your SA password

Are you using Embedded database or SQL?

If Embedded then the password would be the same as u had set initially when you installed SEPM for the first time which was also to be your SEPM login password.

Resetpass.bat would only help you to reset the SEPM login password, there's no way to change the DBA password.

For SQL, you could reset the password or create a new user with SA rights.

It's the Embedded database version. I used the password that we used during the install, 100% sure, but that one is not working. I could login with that password before the upgrade of this management console, but after the ugprade it does not work.

Before you upgraded, your user name was Admin?  And the password worked.

Why do you think after the upgrade, your user name is now DBA?  Was it changed in the console after the upgrade?

Are you using Active Directory synchronization?

If you used the resetpass.bat, have you tried admin/admin?

You can try running a repair on the server, it will once again ask you to input an admin password.

Last thing to check, it is possible that your CAPS lock was on when you entered your password.  Try turning on CAPS lock and entering your password.

The only other thing I can think of, that sometimes makes the system unhappy, is when certain special characters are used and it cannot interpret them for longin.

Try to use the credentials in the ODBC connection and if the test is successful... that's the password.

The password that you are looking for is the database encryption password... you can try "symantec" if that does not work and if you are not sure about your password, get in touch with the symantec support they will help you get your password...
