  • 1.  Managing MSDN subscriptions

We are trying to determine a way to best manage our MSDN subscriptions. We have users who download MS products through these subscription and have the software running on their machines. Something they are completely entitled to do. However because these are full software installs, they are also appearing in our install counts when it comes to reporting. As a result, it can appear that we are non-compliant. Any advise on how best to deal with this? I have heard there is something in the registry which denotes an MSDN download and at this can be excluded in Software Product setup, however I haven't been able to find any definitive answer.

If there is such a registry item, then custom inventory would be the way to obatin that data.

If MSDN SW has a different MSI Product ID than commercial SW, then either our ARP scan or custom inventory should help.

Isn't this an Asset (licensing) or CMS (inventory) question?  Perhaps a kind admin could move it to a forum where it might get more attention?

I'd like to know how to do this one too.
