Has anyone successfully removed the task service from the SMP?

I am specifically referring to the ability for clients to register with the SMP server? Question 3 in this KB article - http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO48411

I am attempting to offload as much task processing I can. This is in addition to proper site server placement, site creation, task setting policies, etc.

Just looking to see if anyone in the community as performed this task and if the results were acceptable.

    Thanks

Hi  this is what I did with this issue

I cloned the task server settings policy and assigned it to only the NS with Max clients set to 100

and then excluded the NS from the original policy, this ensures the NS handles few clients

    see this thread https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/site-server-task-servicespackage-services-question

for some information re task servers

    Thanks Carl

I have done the same and appreciate the feedback. However, I was more curious if anyone ever performed bullet 3 in the above KB article. I wanted to know if they did/didnt experience a negative impact when completely disallowing clients from registering with the SMP.

    Cheers

Had to share that I have implemented bullet 3 in the above KB article and it does work quite well. Been over a month and I havent seen a negative impact and the performance improvement is definately there.
