    Hello,

I'm working on managing disk space for my SEP server.  I have some questions about how Virus Definitions work. I seem to have 4 copies of the same folder that are identical.  Located here:

    C:\program files\symantec\symantec endpoint protection\12.1.671.4971.105

    C:\program files\symantec\symantec endpoint protection\Current Version

    C:\users\all users\symantec\symantec endpoint protection\12.1.671.4971.105

    C:\users\all users\symantec\symantec endpoint protection\current version

These folders take up 5.4 GB of space each, and by getting rid of these duplicate files, I could be saving space.

    I have three questions:

    1. Can I delete the previous versions
    2. Why are there duplicate files in the “All Users” folder.
    3. Can we can assign a different location for those definitions, like on another drive?

    Thanks in advance!

That was very good information and definitely will help me out, but still didn't solve my issues.

    Thanks!

    Hello,

What version of SEP 12.1 are you currently running? Is that SEP 12.1 RU1 MP1?

If yes, did you Migrate the SEP 12.1.671 to directly SEP 12.1 RU1 MP1?

Migration to SEP 12.1 RU1 MP1 should be in the below method:

    SEP 12.1.671 >> SEP 12.1 RU1 >> SEP 12.1 RU1 MP1

Could you check in the Add / Remove Programs if you see 2 versions of SEP?

Is this happening only on 1 machine or other machines as well?

    Could you try -

    1. Uninstalling SEP client from the machine,
    2. Delete the folders you have mentioned above
    3. Restart the machine
    4. Reinstall the SEP client again.

    Hope that helps!!

Can I delete the previous versions

    Yes you can.

Versions 12.1 & above should only be retaining 1 revision of defs. if there is more, you can contact tech support, this could be an issue.

Can we can assign a different location for those definitions, like on another drive?

Negative. you can install SEP on a different drive, but not the definitions.
