Manually download virusdefinisions
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 5 comments
Hi all.
We are running AV Enpoint protection version 9 today. Since this version has reached it´s end of life soon i am wondering if i could manually download new virusdefinitions for version 10.1 and use it with my version 9 ? Is that possible ? And if yes, where can i find those definitions ? We are short of people and that is the reason why we don´t upgrade to a newer version today.
Another question is if the upgrade from version 9 to 10.1 is timeconsuming and advanced ?
Thanks in advance :)
Best regards
Stefan

You'll find the manual definition update files (as well for client as for the AV server) on this page:
http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response...
Migrating to SAV10 will not be possible, you'll have to go to SEP 11. Whether it is time consuming, it depends on how big your environment is. The upgrade to SEP11 goes automatically as of SAV9 (uninstall SAV and install of SEP).

Thanks :)

if Symantec decides to stop
if Symantec decides to stop providing the updates for 9.x then probably you will have to use the script to update via the jdb from the ftp.
The other option will be to use an internal liveupdate server and point the clients to it.
Yeah, That can be done
Yeah, That can be done
De facto when AV does something, it starts jumping up and down, waving its arms, and shouting "Hey! I found a virus! Look at me! I'm soooo goooood!"
Hi, Why is not upgrading to
Hi,
Why is not upgrading to 10.1 not possible? If you upgrade the server to 10.1 that will be enough to provide old version (7.6, 8.x, 9.x) clients defs via VDTM as long as you enable legacy client support from server tuning options, so that the server will also listen to port UDP 2967. Going from 9.x to 10.x is much smaller step than going to SEP 11.
