    ns71

    Hi their guys,

does anyone know how to kick off full inventory collect on a client machine locally.

with ns6 you could go to the altiris agent and easily see the execution command by double clicking on the inventory task.( they should bring this functionality back for software delivery tasks that are displayed in the agent)

i have figured out that the exe for inventory in this case is : "C:\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Agents\Inventory Agent\AeXAuditPls.exe"

    and with the switch "/i" it's gonna kick off a xml file, probably "C:\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Agents\Inventory Agent\InvTaskConfig\Collect Full Inventory.xml"

just can't put it all together.....

According to this thread, it is not possible to do so using a command line:
    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/altiris-cms-70-script-force-agent-complete-full-inventory

However, you can do so with a task or policy, provided the agent has connectivity to the NS.

The link below provides the steps on how to manually create inventory policies and tasks:

@Irina -This HOWTO tells us how to create these tasks and policies on the server -not how to fire these off manually on the client.

@toca -as mclemson says this is not yet possible with 7. I've had to resort myself to setting up a task server side which I target machines with when I want to manually initiate this. I will unpick this at a later point to see how to trigger this process from the client, but for now we have to accept this new design.

i used to use command lines on version 6 to kick off whichever inventory i wanted to, just made it so much easier when you are testing things....

i suppose i will keep chipping away at it... where theres a will there a way... :-)

I echo what ianatkin just said... but he is endlessly entertaining. I'd sit by him (well, maybe across the table) at dinner any time!

I end just end up running InvSoln.exe /fi or one of the delta inventory switches.

An alternative option is to create a standalone inventory pack you can run to gather the full inventory. I've implemented this for when we can't wait for policies to refresh adn its not feasible to give the support staff access to a task.

Can you explain how you do that

    Inventory Solution User Guide:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC3970

    Chapter 6 is Stand-alone inventory.

The stand alone inventory described in section 6 is just for Windows, isn't it?

Do you know of any way of getting anything similar, but for Unix/Linux?

Yep, stand-alone is Windows only.  I'd say a custom inventory would be your non-Windows option.

mclemson: I know about custom inventory ;)

I'll create another thread commenting my current case.
