Max File Size for Images to make bootable dvd
Updated: 22 May 2010 | 6 comments
I'm having an issue attempting to import images to create bootable dvd. I have an image called train which contains train.img + train.002. If I import either of these and create a network boot disk it will work fine, but if I import both (either 1/time or selected group) during the Compressing Ext2 file system stage I will receive "Error reading file" when altiris attempts to Compress file 'rootfs.gz' this only happen when I try to use booth.
From what I can see this has something to do with the total size of the image. Each image file is 2gb even.
I was hoping someone might be able to tell me if this is the case or if there is something else I am missing.
Thanks,

Total file size
Total file size may not exceed 2.4 gb.
Bigger then 2.4 gives the error you mention.

I'm confused I looked at a network boot disk I built with altiris and it was two parts part1 = 2.1gb & part 2 = 1.8gb and it has worked fine, but when I copy the same files into a configuration now I get the error. Why would Altiris allow the files one time but not another?
Removing Files from RAM disk
Hello,
BDC has a greate feature that allows files not to be loaded in the RAMDISK.
So, in Boot Disk Creator when you create at a configuration create a folder named "." (no quotes and yes it is a dot) under the configuration name. Add your image file at this location and might as well add rdeploy.
The . (dot folder) tells Boot Disk Creator no to load the files into RAMDISK. When you boot from CD do a search for the image files and you should be good to go.
