media (not) appendable (until)

Created: 11 Jul 2013 | 5 comments

Lately my backup job failed a few times. I began to check the tape properties. Now I saw that for some tapes there was a date set on appendable until... (these dates are all ending this month), some tapes have the property 'not appendable' and one tape even had 'not appendable' (end marker unreadable).

Where can I change these settings? And which setting is preferable?

Thanks a lot,

Look under the Media tab for the media sets. Right-click them and choose Properties and you can change the Append/Overwrite Protection settings accordingly.

the overwrite protection period is set to 4 weeks, the append period is 6 days. I don't know what I did wrong that different tapes in the same media set have different apend periods...

Oh, no... now I understand the concept of the append period... I'm sorry... please ignore my last post...

Off course the appendable until is different for each tape in use...

the tape that failed this week also has a lot of errors: soft, hard, read and write errors...

Is it necessary to replace the tape?

The problem only occured on Tuesday backup. All setting are the same - Overwritable’ & ‘Infinite – Allow Append’ but when it comes to Tuesday backup the status change into Not appendable (Media Full). We already test one method - performed inventory and do quick erase then associate the tape into Daily backups. It work for a while then the same issue coming back. Please advice for permanent solution. Thanks.
