Media Overwrite Protection Level cannot be changed

This issue has been solved. See solution.
Hi,
I just installed Backup Exec v12.0 build 1364 with SP3 on Small Business Server 2008 Standard with SP2 and cannot change the media overwrite protection level in Tools > Options > Media Management, I need to set it to "None" but when I do this and OK, and then check again the setting has not been retained and has reverted to "Partial" with "prompt before overwriting imported media" also ticked. Can anyone help?
Thank you,
Neil

This is weird. I have a similar setup, with no issues. Can you try this again, may be you missed on ok and clicked cancel instead? This should work, there is no reason why it would be broken. It is a basic functionality of Backup Exec and has been there for long time. If it still does not work, suggest you reparing BE.
Thanks
RE: Media Overwrite Protection Level cannot be changed
is this the default media set or a locally created one
I remember from several versions back (v9? v10? ) that changes could not be made to the Default media set. (I always create and use custom media sets for production jobs, myself)

Exact same problem
I have the exact same issue and I am also using Backup Exec v12.0 rev. 1364. Interestingly, the same issue occurs for the "Media overwrite options". All other settings can be changed.
I have checked and it applies to both default media sets and locally created ones.
I thought it could be an issue of the logon account as the server (including Backup Exec 12.0) was installed with the default administrator account, and we have since setup a second admin account which we use. But I added the 2nd admin account to the Logon Account list and the problem is still there.
Some additional info, the reason why I want to change the Media Overwrite Protection Level is due to the fact the my backup tape has started being ejected during incremental backups with the message that the media is overwrite protected.
This is driving me insane! Thanks for your help.
Media Overwrite Protection
I also have the same problem on a new installation of Backup Exec V12 Build 1364 with all Live updates applied.
Installation was successful with no errors I created a brand new Media set with media set periods set to 0 hours on overwrite and append.
But when I go into Tools/options/Media Management I also cannot set the media protection overwrite level to NONE, it just keeps defaulting back to partial with prompt.
Media Management - Media Overwrite Protection
I'm experiencing the exact same thing that is pointed out here. I have installed BackupExec v12 B1364 and all subsequent updates.
Seems to be only the Global Option - Media Management and the Overwrite Protection settings that cannot be changed.
I've tried this but no luck;
* recreating a system logon account as default account
* changing account for BackupExec services to the default system account
* deleting and recreating jobs
* deleting and recreating Media Sets
* changed backup media from Tape to B2D
Default my setting is None under Media Overwrite Protection and as soon as I set another option, Full/Partial, click Ok and go back to the Media Management tab its back on None.
Please if you have any ideas or have come up with something new, post it here.
Thanks for all help!
Jonas
Has there been any update to
Has there been any update to this?
I have a new, out the box server, running SBS 2008 SP2, BEX 12.0 Rev 1364 and new tapes. I have created a Media set, set the Overwrite Protection to None (on the backup set) but I cannot get a backup to run unless the tape is marked as Scratch. Now this isn't really a solution for a backup set rotation, so I'd like to know what's going on.
I have tried to change Tools > Options > Media Management and cannot change either the overwrite level (from Partial to None) NOR the Overwrite options.
What's going on?
I have seen this happening
I have seen this happening with Backup Exec 12.0, upgrading to 12.5 should take care of the issue.
Thanks
Hotfix released for issue
Please review Technote support.veritas.com/docs/338423 which discussed this issue. Hotfix 336718 for BE 12.0 has been released today which addresses this and once applied to the media server, will allow any Media Management changes to be saved.
