Media server upgrade

Created: 28 Sep 2006 • Updated: 21 May 2010 | 3 comments

Hi,

I would like to upgrade a newly installed media server (Solaris 8.0) from

5.1 to 5.1MP5.

As it is only a media server and not a master server which of the following

maintenance packages are really necessary for a media server ?

NB_CLT_51_5_M*

NB_51_5_M*

NB_JAV_51_5*

NB_ACD_51_5*

NB_LOT_51_5*

Are there any other maintenance packages to install ?

kind regards,

Stefan

That looks good. The NB_ACD is the patch for advanced client so you only need it if you have the advanced client option. Not sure what LOT is for. If you do not have any options you only need the first three that you have listed.

Hi Stefan,

The first 2 are the base, the 3rd is needed if you running jnbSA on media server (but is good to level the patch), the 4th & 5th is the Advance Client and Lotus database agent. If your media server is not running Lotus database, its not require.

Since its the media server, you may want to update the device mapping file as well: MAPPINGS_5_*.ZIP

Hi Chia

I agree with your statement. I installed only

NB_CLT_51_5_M*

NB_51_5_M*

NB_JAV_51_5*

as I do not need

NB_ACD_51_5*

NB_LOT_51_5*

Although NB_CLT_51_5_M* contains all NetBackup clients for all platforms, the

install script of NB_CLT_51_5_M* installed automatically only the NetBackup client

binaries for Solaris as the media server runs on Solaris.

This probably happened in accordance with the following remark:

5.1 - NetBackup Installation Guide for UNIX, page 21:

"Do not install additional client software on any media servers"

Generally, I think that the VERITAS documentation regarding how to setup a

detached media server is quite poor.
