Upgrade Messaging gateway on VMware vSphere 4 to 10.0.0-7 sep-09-2012 with no problem but I got problem with updates at oct-02-2012
The virus & spam definitons is 6 days old
What can the problem be with the updates?

Are you sure that your Messaging Gateway is able to get out to the internet?
I would suggest reading this document:

It also looked like Spam definitons are also out of date and trust me it's much better important than Virus definitions, it must be updated every 10 minutes.
As JDavis mentioned,check the internet connection, it looks the root cause of your problem. Maybe there are some proxy or firewall restrictions between SMG and internet.

The problem was a DNS problem.
Now is brightmail working
